Banking jobs

Private and small finance banks hire continuously in Gujarat, and most of it is not the government-exam route people picture when they think of a bank job.

What a bank job actually looks like here

The public image of banking in India is the PSU exam track — IBPS, clerical and PO cadres, seniority by tenure. That exists, but it is not where most hiring happens. Private and small finance banks recruit on a rolling basis, and the majority of those roles are customer-facing and target-carrying from day one.

That surprises people. A “branch banking officer” role is usually part service, part sales: opening accounts, deepening existing relationships, and hitting CASA or liabilities numbers. If you want a bank job with no target attached, operations and back-office roles are where to look — but they are fewer, and they pay differently.

The upside is that private banking roles reward performance quickly and the skills transfer. A strong liabilities RM can move into wealth, credit or insurance distribution within a few years, which is why we see the same candidates move between banking and BFSI sales mandates over a career.

Roles we recruit for

  • Branch banking officer / relationship manager

Service plus sales — account opening, relationship deepening, and a CASA or liabilities target.

  • CASA and liabilities sales

Acquiring current and savings accounts, often field-based rather than counter-based.

  • Credit and underwriting support

Assessment, documentation and processing for lending products. Detail work, not sales.

  • Operations and back office

Processing, reconciliation and compliance support. Fewer roles, but no sales target.

  • Wealth and investment RM

Managing a book of higher-value customers across investment and insurance products. Usually needs NISM certification.

  • Collections and recovery

Field and tele-collections across retail lending portfolios.

What gets you shortlisted

Banking screens harder on documentation and background than most sectors. Get these right before you apply:

  • Whether the role you have done was sales-target-carrying or service-only — say which.
  • Products handled: CASA, term deposits, home loans, LAP, personal loans, cards.
  • Book size or portfolio value you have managed, and the customer segment.
  • Certifications — NISM series, AMFI/ARN, JAIIB or CAIIB — with years.
  • A clean background record. Banking runs thorough verification, and gaps or discrepancies surface late and painfully.
  • Systems you have used: Finacle, core banking platforms, CRM and LMS tools.

Skills employers screen for

  • Branch banking
  • CASA sales
  • Relationship management
  • Credit assessment
  • KYC and compliance
  • Finacle
  • Portfolio management
  • Cross-selling

Banking jobs — common questions

Do I need to clear an exam like IBPS?
Not for private and small finance bank roles, which is most of what we recruit for. Those hire on experience and interview rather than a common exam. PSU banking is a separate track we do not handle.
Are all banking jobs sales jobs?
Most customer-facing ones carry a target, including many roles titled as service positions. Operations, back-office and credit-processing roles do not, but there are fewer of them.
What qualifications do I need?
A graduate degree for most roles. JAIIB, CAIIB, NISM or AMFI certification helps and is sometimes required — particularly for wealth and investment roles.
Can I move from insurance sales into banking?
Yes, and it is a common move in both directions. Lead with product knowledge and numbers rather than with the sector name, because the underlying skill transfers better than the job title suggests.
